VI Biennale di Architettura di Pisa

“Nature” and the future of the city, between ethics and ecology.
In its sixth edition, the Pisa Architecture Biennale, opens a crucial debate on the relationship between architecture and the environment; it’s a deep and cross-disciplinary reflection on how human creation can once again come into balance with the planet.
Architecture plays a crucial role in this process, as an instrument for managing the complex systems in which we live, and in addressing the environmental and social impacts produced by climate change.
The event, promoted by the association LP – Laboratorio Permanente per la Città and curated by Massimo Del Seppia, Chiara Barsotti, Pietro Berti, and Andrea Iacomoni, presents itself as a true widespread urban laboratory, involving eight pavilions along the main axis of the Arno River.
POWERBARN
Center of production of energy from renewable sources
The project of the center of production of energy from renewable sources in Russi (Ravenna) is aterritorial and social regenerationproject of a large area linked to the name of “Eridania”, one of the iconic brands of the Italian agri-food industry.
The agricultural community, once closely tied to sugar production, responded positively to the closure of the sugar factory by working to convert the agri-food supply chain into an agro-energy one.
The areas of low interest for agricultural production have been dedicated to the production of poplar on a short supply chain (70 km radius).
It’s a virtuous example of resilient communities.
The project represents a fusion between the surrounding agricultural world and the industrial one.
The idea is to envision a territorial/landscape intervention where the design of the embankment or boundary becomes the point of interface between the rural and industrial world.
The signs and materials on a territorial scale are of agricultural origin, just as the wooden cladding of the main building is natural.
It’s a tribute to the art of weaving and of temporary rural architecture.
