Perfect Toilets

Public toilets are a mark of civilization and an essential component of public space.

Perfect Toilets faces a building typology  often neglected in Italian cities: public restrooms. It is both a matter of civility and a significant design issue, especially in light of an aging population and increasing tourist flows.

The Perfect Toilets project takes inspiration from Wim Wenders’ film Perfect Days, dedicated to the public toilets in Tokyo’s Shibuya district.

Conceived by IoArch and Tork, and curated by Luigi Prestinenza Puglisi, Perfect Toilets seeks to promote the creation of new public toilets for Italian cities.

DUNA

The “Dune” project was born on the beach of Pescara.

Pescara, an Adriatic city, has its beach as one of the main collective places, not only in summer but throughout the year, when the seafront becomes the seam between the urban fabric and the sea.

The idea is to imagine a sort of “equipped dune”.

As in Lucio Fontana’s Spatial Concept, where a “cut” reveals a new dimension, here a cut in the sand lifts a strip of shoreline, creating a space for toilets, showers, and storage for nautical equipment.

The entire system is self-sufficient in terms of water supply, wastewater treatment, and the generation of electricity from renewable sources.
